APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

Always looking for an edge, two-time Snipe World Champion and Star World Champion, Augie Diaz, has announced that he will be training for the Pan-Am Games with Monique, the sailor formerly known as Peter Commette. "We're a little heavy right now, but with a year to go, his, I mean her, hormone treatments should result in the weight loss we need. In the meantime, I just want to support Monique in every way possible; that includes shielding him, I mean her, from one of the members of our Snipe Fleet 7 here who always is looking for his next conquest. I'm afraid that Monique is quite vulnerable as she (got it right that time!) explores her new identity. Also, I intend to file a grievance with U.S. Sailing; that second to Monique in the 1973 U.S. Youth Singlehanded Male Championships has always bothered me, and now we know that Monique should not have been allowed to race in the regatta."

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

As part of its continued efforts to increase public interest, the International Pan-American Games Committee has announced that the new mixed team Snipe Class will now be human and dog. Xande Paradeda immediately announced that he's chosen a Chihuahua as crew. He calls his new teammate “Tinoco,” because it’s more fun when he kicks it.

Meanwhile, Augie may have to re-think his plans with Monique—unless she decides to start identifying as a dog.

Boomerang Regatta

Wednesday, 01 February 2017 19:04

Fort Lauderdale, January 28-29, 2017

by Peter Commette

The Lauderdale Yacht Club regatta, named "Boomerang" because of its unique course layout for the inland Opti fleets, has been a staple in Florida for decades. This year, Snipes were added to the regatta's outside, ocean course, joining the Lasers and 420's. The late addition of the Snipes made for a small but extremely competitive fleet.

Fort Lauderdale, May 9, 2015.

The day began gloriously sunny and warm with a light Southwest wind. The fleet towed to the racing area. By 10:30 the wind had switched to the predicted Southeast and was at 7 knots at the 11:00 AM start, building throughout the 5 races to 13 knots by the last race, the races being run flawlessly by Lauderdale Yacht Club. The regatta was won on the last leg of the last race by 6 inches. Tight racing in the ocean in bathing suit weather. Can't beat that.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

We knew it would happen sooner or later, but Augie Diaz finally has announced his retirement. Typical of his cryptic fashion, when asked about his decision, Augie replied, "It's because I'm older than dirt." His father, Gonzalo "The Old Man" Diaz, when reached for comment, had this to say, "I win! I win!"

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

Retired U.S. Naval officer and veteran Snipe sailor, Doug Hart, has brokered the creation of a revolutionary partnership for SCIRA with the U. S. Navy.

The Navy's top officers view as the future of their dominance on the surface of the world's waterways a laser cannon, its magazine limited only by the amount of energy pumped into it and costing pocket change to fire, punching through an adversary's cheap anti-ship weapons — at the speed of light.

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

Snipe Masters Worlds announces new sponsor, name change and slogan: The Snipe Viagra Cup. "We do it up to 18 knots or 18 hours, whichever comes first." In a related story, the regatta is enjoying a record number of women registrants. When asked why, one of the women commented, "Are you stupid?"
