The Snipe Class slogan is "Serious Sailing, Serious Fun." After spending the weekend covering the XLVII Annual DON Q Rum Keg regatta, I have to say they take their slogan, well...., seriously. Thirty eight Snipes from nine different countries converged on Miami's Biscayne Bay for the second stop of the Snipe Winter Circuit. The Don Q is a five race event with no drop, so every race is serious. One false start or bad shift can make the difference between trophies or memories.

2013 (XLIV Annual) Comodoro Rasco

Tuesday, 05 February 2013 17:31

19 snipes competed for the 44th Annual Comodoro Rasco Snipe Regatta, hosted by the Coconut Grove Sailing Club and the Miami Snipe Fleet # 7 and sailed February 2-3, 2013.

Ernesto Rodriguez/Hillary Noble tied with Peter Commette/Bruno Mello, but the tie breaker gave Ernesto and Hillary the Championship!  It was a real battle between these two with Kevin and Ashley Reali getting in there, participating in the tough competition and finishing in third place.  The AICARDI TROPHY was awarded this time to the most accomplished skipper, the young  Andre Guaragna with his father crewing for him. The greatest accomplishment is surviving his father, Andre is the coolest guy I have ever seen!! Keep and eye on Andre he will be a top Snipe sailor!

Every year in January, young sailors from all over the nation flock to Miami for a tough, yet very fun, Snipe regatta. While some of these sailors are veterans in the class, others have never even set foot in the boat. Not only is it a great chance to substantially improve one's sailing skills, it is also a great chance to meet new friends.

The Miami Snipe Invitational Regatta and Clinic are phenomenal introductions to the Snipe fleet. Young sailors have the opportunity to be coached by some of the best Snipe sailors in the nation, and receive the chance to qualify for an International Snipe Regatta; this year, the MSI regatta was a qualifying event for the 2013 Junior World Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
