"During the final two years of school each student has to do a project. The choice of subject is totally free, some opted for a theoretical project, I chose to do a practical one. I wanted to make something usefulthat I could enjoy for many years, that's why I chose to build a boat. I'm not a keen sailor and had no idea which boat I would choose. My father told me that the Snipe is a good boat for a novice boat builder.

Wim Ghys en Ann Van Daele winnen DWR 2011.

Voor de 12e keer de DWR, weer mooi weer, maar de wind heeft ons een beetje in de steek gelaten.

Ambiance, mooie kostumen en vooral fair zeilen, behalve Manu en Alex kregen daarvoor een DSQ.

Met 17 bootjes aan de start hadden we een mooie dag.

When did you start sailing?

Many years ago my parents had a motorboat in Holland and wanted to buy a sailboat. The problem was they couldn't sail. So my father decided to buy an optimist and he learned to sail by himself. Must have been a funny sight :-)
After a while he felt confident enough to have the sailing yacht and I got the optimist. I was 8 at the time. Soon I became the local harbor hero and my first girlfriend was a fact. When I was 11 I started to attend (national) races. I was less a hero then :-(
