APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

In a unique cooperation negotiated by Martha Parker, owner of Team1Newport, Patagonia and Raymarine have just launched the innovative ChestTick®, a bra-mounted compass perfect for a male skipper and female crew.

Designed especially for double-handed boats like the Snipe, Martha says the new product will put tactical information right where skippers are already looking. “The ChestTick Micro is low profile and can be worn by anyone,” Martha said in a recent interview. “The Macro will be available only in C-D cup sizes.”

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

The Snipe class may be old, but thanks to constant modifications by its high-tech builders it is keeping up with the foiling times. DB Marine's Enrico and Daniela recently tested out some Moth blades and found liftoff. Rumors of a second class at the 2017 Worlds could not be confirmed by press time.

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

After a long-lasting downturn, the Lake Bracciano area has just discovered a new fantastic opportunity that will lead to an economic rebound.
As many of you know, the water of Lake Bracciano is used to supply fresh water to the western part of Rome and some other big towns out in the countryside. All this drinking and a dry winter has caused a significant decrease in Lake Bracciano water level.

Lake Bracciano is a volcanic crater flooded by wellsprings and rain, over 200m at its deepest point, so the issue caused by this massive draw of water is around the current shoreline.

The flat shoreline areas (generally beaches) are now around 20m frp, the water's edge.
For years, many companies tried to use the local thermal breeze to generate energy, deploying a wind-energy power-plant (made of several wind-energy generators). But the depth of the Lake made that impossible, because the maximum depth of offshore wind-energy power-plants is 15m.

Biscayne Bay Bans Boats

Friday, 01 April 2016 06:05

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

The Miami City Council unanimously approved a new urban plan for the Coconut Grove shoreline at 12:01am today, and the news for sailors is all negative.

With the aim of improving the quality of life and the environment in the Miami area, the State of Florida, the Miami Dade County and the city of Miami have turned to a team of professionals to reshape the landscape. The plan covers two different areas and the goal is to return Biscayne Bay to its natural state, while modernizing the city of Miami's waterfront buildings. Boats will be banned on the Bay beginning in 2020.

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

His competitors didn't know it at the time, but rumors that Augie Diaz was testing an important patent-pending idea at the 2016 DonQ have recently been confirmed. Just after the windward mark of the windiest race, as the vang was eased, the halyard lock also unloaded—and then the helm lightened as the main automatically dropped two feet.

"It worked just as I'd hoped," said Augie Diaz afterward. "And if we make it this easy to reduce sail when it's windy, we will definitely attract more sailors to the class."

After two days of work with his favorite tool, the rat tail file, Augie perfected the prototype and immediately sent it off to the US Patent Office. Because of its widespread implications for the future of our sport (and perhaps for all of mankind and the future of our planet), the Patent Office rushed it through the approval process so fast that today, only ten days after submitting his original application, Augie received official confirmation of Patent #DiazSnipeReef.

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

We have some great news for the Snipe Class, and also for the sport of sailing in general. The next Snipe World Championship will be held in Castel Gandolfo (August 20-27, 2017).

In a close bid, the SCIRA Board felt the bid from the Vatican City would provide a better championship than the bids from Spain and Finland.

Castel Gandolfo is located 15 miles Southeast of Rome, on Lake Albano. In the town lies the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo, which serves as a summer residence and vacation retreat for the Pope. The regatta office will be located within the Palace, which has extraterritorial status as one of the properties of the Holy See and is not under the jurisdiction of Italy.

Snipe Builder to Test Side Foils

APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE

US Snipe builder Andrew Pimental of Jibetech has revealed a plan to test hydrofoils on his new Mark IV model. The first retrofitted boat should be available in time for the North Americans in June, though it's not clear whether the blades will increase the overall price or not.

"It seems pretty easy to build them," says Andrew, explaining that he's built plenty of similar foils for A-Cats in the past. "And the boats should be cheaper because there is less build time. The J-foils go out through the sides of the hull, so you don't have to finish that area off as carefully. But carbon's expensive, so we're not sure whether the price is going to go up or down yet."
