Gdansk, July 5-7, 2013. Notice of Race available

Dear SNIPE Friends,

In this year SNIPE East European Championship is going to be held on the one of the most beautiful Polish water reservoir – in National Sailing Center in Gdańsk (Górki Zachodnie). The regatta starts on 05/07/2013 and ends on 07/07/2013. We plan to carry out 8 races (3,3,2). The regatta will be held as the part of huge event – NORD CUP – Gdańsk 2013 (www.nordcup.pl) – it's a rally of the best sailors in many classes.

- 1) Your first time on a sailing boat?

I was 12-13 years old when my younger brother and I started to learn sailing in the Cadet class. Before that, as a kid, I was really into constructing model sailing boats. I think I still have some of them hidden somewhere in in the attic ...

- 2) Your first time on a Snipe?

I was about 40 then. The Snipe class first appeared in Poland after the WWII but it practically stopped its activity in 1960s. I think that to some extent the reasons for it might have been political: Snipe is an American class so it was frowned upon and not really promoted by the Communist regime. After the system transformation in 1989 together with my colleagues we came up with an idea to reactivate it. Gladly, we were successful and managed to rebuild it in late 1990s. It was possible thanks to Matilde and Jacques Romain, a French couple, who helped us a lot.

Gdansk, June 30 - July 2, 2012. Gdańsk is a very old Hansean city on the Baltic Sea. Here there is located the national Sailing Centre.
This place is renowned for its atmosphere and people who are very keen on sailing. Those include the authorities of Gdańsk and sailing enthusiasts and sponsors. This year Gdansk has hosted an important sailing event – Timberland Nord Cup 2012 (similar to the Kieler Woche). The participants of this event have represented various sailing classes, for example, Hornet, OK- dingy, Hobby Cat, Europa, Nautica 450 and 420 .

In a month time East European Cup – Baltic Sail Nord Cup Gdańsk 2012 is taking place.

As spring has come the new sailing season is going to be opened soon. That is why I woluld like to remind you that Poland organise two important sport events in June and July 2012.

The first is of course EURO 2012 and the second is the NORD CUP - SNIPE EAST EUROPEAN CUP 2012 in Gdansk, dated 30/06/2012-02/07/2012.

I am hounored to inform You that for the first time East European Championships 2012 are going to be held in Gdansk. This is an old, merchant seaside city. Each summer old ships and yachts gather there during great event – Baltic Sail. In 2011 the Nord Cup regatta took place there and here are a few photos from there (photos K. Korneszczuk).

Dear Snipe Sailors,

In the upcoming season 2012 we can expect a range of interesting sailing events and championships in Europe.

European Championship 2012 definitely appears the most important event. This flagship event on the Old Continent will be held in an excellent location- Cirolo Nautico Dilettantistco, Cervia (RA), Italy- which is know to a lot of us due to the fact that this famous club organizes the Piada Trophy annually. The hosts will definitely do their best to organise regattas in an outstanding and perfect way. The scheduled date, 5-14 August, will without doubt attract numerous observers and supporters as August is the traditional holiday month and peak season in Italy. In addition, Cervia is a historic Adriatic resort with plenty of tourists and offering countless attractions. I really look forward to meeting all teams from Europe Snipe there.
