- 1) Your first time on a sailing boat?

I was 10 years old, in a Optimist.

- 2) Your first time on a Snipe?

At age 13 I was too big to sail my optimist so started to crew my uncle Tito Roboredo

- 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

In the 1986 Maxi Multi-Hull Round Europe Race we were racing over the limits. At that time Kevlar was too expensive and we had Dacron sails. The 230 sqm main, made in two ply 400 gr cloth weighted almost 300 Kg.

Upwind in 25 + knts if we eased the main sheet it took 15 min to sheet it in again. Trying to stay with the leaders we decide to keep it in all time, and fly really high almost full time the upwind hull. During the couple of weeks of this insane sailing, in every leg stop we had to repair a crack in the painting. It was annoying to have it done every 3 or 4 days ...

- 1) Your first time on a sailing boat?

At 7 years old in a Sailing Yacht with my father. After it, I took an Optimist course at my Club - Club de Vela Atlantico in Oporto. The following year my father gave me an Optimist.

- 2) Your first time on a Snipe?

In 1978. I was 12 and one of the best Snipe Sailors of my Club invited me for a Club Race. In this time I was  an Optimist sailor, but since this moment my expectation all the weekends was to be invited for a Snipe Race.

- 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

It was a really very disappointed situation, when at the finish mark we were really fitting for the first place with another boat and by mistake we didn´t cross the finish line. This was in an National classificatory race.

- 4) What is the thing that most angers you in a race/regatta?

People who ruin your race by doing unfair and not knowing the rules and people who yell all the time during a starting.

Tiago Roquette and Tiago Morais are the new Portuguese National Champions.. Tiago Roquette is the sailor in the  class with more National Championship Trophy's in Portugal , having reached his 14th victory.
