  1. I believe the boat’s number is incorrect for a 1955 era boat. I have one snipe built in 1954 #9741 and another one built in 1963 #14177.
    I can remember as a kid seeing a 1950 era Snipe Bulletin ad using a picture of Mario Capio sailing a 9000 series snipe as a testimonial for a sailmaker (I think) after winning the Worlds.

    the hull number is #9701: we found that number from the SCIRA Italy boats data base.
    Letter “I” means Italy, when ISAF (sorry, World Sailing) was called IYRU.
    US, BL, A, K, F, B, N, S KC, D, P, E, L … were the national letters
