Same as 1.

- 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

I do not know what to write. Too many things bizzare things happened in various ways. hahaha

- 4) What is the thing that most angers you in a race/regatta?

When I am on the wrong side, like during the Snipe Junior Worlds in 2015. I dropped a big opportunity and through it lost first place.

- 1) Your first time on a sailing boat?

I was ten years old, when my parents, annoyed because I used to play video games all the day, sent me to the Yacht Club Lignano's sailing school, where I began with the Optimist.

- 2) Your first time on a Snipe?

Two years ago. Pietro Fantoni asked me to join him for a Snipe National Regatta in Pescara and I accepted with almost no idea of what a Snipe was. We raced nicely and I had lot of fun both on land and water.

- 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

At a Laser Regatta, the Race Comitee raised N flag 5 minutes after the start without any sound, so we kept racing. The absurd was that at the starting line the RC had already started a new procedure with all the boats far away from the line!

Maybe even before I was born, my family always sailed and I learned to sail since I was a baby, but I only began sailing Optis with 9 years old (2006).

In Brasilia, 2007, crewing for my friend Felipe Rondina, we were both 10 years old!

- 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

I was in an Optimist regatta in Ilhabela (near São Paulo) when suddenly I saw a penguin hitting my boat and trying to get on!

14 Questions to ... Antonio Lopez Montoya

Tuesday, 24 November 2015 07:39

Antonio Lopez Montoya, from Cartagena, Spain, is the 2015 Junior World Champion (with his crew Gregorio Belmonte Cuenca).

My first time in Optimist was in the summer of 2006.

- 2) Your first time on a Snipe?

Mmmmm, I think that two years and a half ago, during the summer too.

- 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

I remember one time in an Optimist race in Vigo. The wind was so light and the current was so strong that the boats could only move backwards in the upwind.

- 4) What is the thing that most angers you in a race/regatta?

When something related to my equipment breaks and you lose the race because of this.

By Carol Cronin

Over the past several years, there has been a lot of discussion about how to provide good charter boats for international championships—and how to get them returned in equally good shape. It's a tough challenge, and an important one to solve if we want to encourage as many people as possible to attend distant events.

The 2015 Worlds in Talamone set a new high standard for charter boat quality and repair work. From 7-27 September, DB Marine had three people always on site—and at critical times like measurement and practice days, there were four or five. Before the regatta, Enrico and Daniela Michel and their team (Andrea Pribaz, Fulvio Levantini and Antonia Contin) rigged charter boats (and then if necessary re-rigged them to a sailor's specific needs). During the event, they made 85 boat repairs, both on their own charter boats and on other boats in the fleet. And they did it all with a smile and "yes we can" attitude. The only times I saw either one sitting down was for their daily coffee break—and the day's repairs were usually curing during that short rest.
