Skipper and owner Mario Capio, Fleet Spalturno Genova.

Mario Capio was World Champion in 1955 (Santander) with "Portorose" I 9701.

On July 23rd, five wooden Snipes and one Sharpie heeded the call for the 4th Marina del Rey Wooden Dinghy Race, an event now in its 3rd year.

As in previous years the race was organized on the day the Classic Yacht Association stages the Old Fashioned Day in the Park; and the classic motor yachts and classic cars lining the shore presented a magnificent backdrop to the start and finish of the race.

The race was hosted by the Del Rey Yacht Club, where the boats congregated in the morning for display, followed by a skippers meeting and breakfast.

78 yr old Snipe #3258 "Woody" - Owner Art Rousmaniere

This Snipe was owner built in Baltimore Maryland USA back before WW II, and has been modernized by an experienced wooden boat sailor on Cape Cod (who sails and races Beetle Cat sailboats which are popular in that region, and is/was an officer of that class organization). Art is the Snipe Class USA National Secretary and is fully involved in hosting the "east coast" Classic Snipe Rally on July 8-9, 2017 at his home sailing club on Mystic Lake in Winchester/Boston Massachusetts. This Snipe was displayed and sailed in the 2014 Classic Snipe Rally, also held there.

1951 Clark Mills Snipe #8653 "Texan II" originally owned by 1956 SCIRA Commodore Harold Gilreath Sr. and now owned by Michael Jones of Clearwater Florida and McKay Creek Boat Shop at Heritage Village in Largo Florida. Rebuilt and restored after fire damage at McLaughlin Boat Works by Joe Norton of Green Lake Wisconsin.

I - 13908 "Barbanera III", designed by D'Isiot, was built in okoume (purchased from Bariffi & Wuschlager in Lugano, Switzerland) by Giorgio's father. The mainsail is a Parovel, designed for the bending boom (with the mainsheet system in the middle, without the bridle). The photo was taken in Sistiana (Gulf of Trieste) in 1965 during the "Coppa Barbanera" won by Massone and Zezzo with their Snipe "Zal III".

1940/41 Snipe "C.O.D."

Beautifully restored Snipe (not #13...) build in 1940/41 by Becker of Sea Cliff, NY.

Not original #13 built in 1931, this one was built in 1940 or 1941 and the number was re-assigned by SCIRA. The original owner was Ruth Becker of Sea Cliff, NY (Long Island) who was 1940 US Women's National Snipe Champion. The original name of this boat was "C.O.D."
