Snipe Europeans 2018 web site now open. Welcome! www.snipeeuropeans.org.

Don't mind some old links of 2016 event and NOR missing. These will be fixed. You can already start your preparations... And extra bonus to Martin: you can still make it in five days...

The regatta is open to all European and non-European SCIRA registered boats and Class Member skippers and crews who are in good standing with SCIRA for the current year, subject to any Deed of Gift restrictions.

And this is none of those April's Fool's stories

Scoring System for Big Events

Wednesday, 23 August 2017 20:02

A new scoring system was used for the 2016 Europeans and the Worlds 2017. It consists, as most of you know, on a Qualifying Series and Final Series.

For the Final Series, each competitor carries his/her Overall position of the Qualifying Serie as Race #1 of the Final Series. This Race #1 is not excluded as discard.

When César Sans and I wrote the Sailing Instructions for the Europeans 2016, we spent a lot of time on the phone (and emails) discussing how to write them to be the most clear and understandable for competitors, specially in the point about the Fleets and Scoring System. We put special care on finding the exact words to not let space to doubts. No modifications to the Sailing Instructions during the Europeans, so I guess we made a good job.

Ideas from the European Secretary

Friday, 03 February 2017 07:38

By Martin Bermudez de la Puente, General Secretary for Europe

Dear friends,

First of all, I would like to thank Zibi for his great dedication, effort and contribution over the last years.

As the new European Secretary for the next couple of years I would like to help to improve our class as much as possible. I will go over each country situation and I will try to help you with whatever you may need from me.

For the moment I want to introduce you the following ideas in order to get your feedback if possible.

109 boats is a great number! This is the number of boats that attended the 2016 Open European Championship in Santiago de la Ribera, Spain, last September. It is a record and we can be proud!

But, as many of you know, the topic "Open or Closed Europeans" is an ongoing one. We had a lot of discussion about it on SnipeToday and some Snipe sailors are in favor of an open event. Others (I think now a minority) are for a closed event.

In August, the Promotion Committee shared a lot of ideas and, just before the Europeans, I posted an article about the Open Europeans (and Open events in general): http://www.snipetoday.org/articles/exchange-of-views/item/2979-promotion-committee-about-open-europeans-and-major-open-events-in-general

In that article I wrote: "We should again consider the same topic after the "hundred boat" Open European Championship in Santiago de la Ribera in late September 2016. It will be a good test of this open concept, and an indicator for the Snipe Class for future important decisions".

So now we can analyze the regatta we had in Spain and talk again about Open Europeans and open events in general.

As asailor, I can say that the Europeans in Spain were a great success.

Here are some details:
