Despite strong opposition from SCIRA Poland and the Ukraine federation, the Board has decided to move the event form Poland to Sevastopol, Russia. The Russian federation has agreed to keep the dates the same. Sponsors will include the Russian Navy and Gazprom.

Russian President Vladimir Putin personally lobbied the Board for the event, in order to improve his international ties with the rest of the world after the annexation of Crimea to Russia. “Snipe class is very significant to world peace,” Putin said through a translator. “We prove to world we are friendly by hosting this regatta. And we do better job than Poland.”
The Russian Sports Minister Sergey Sailingsky has already started production of 3,500 Snipes, in order to spread the class to all regions in Russia.
In particular, new fleets are planned in Sevastopol, on Lake Baikal, Vladivostok and on the islands of Severnaya Zemlya.
