SCIRA Rules Hiking Sticks Illegal, Sets Maximum Length for Jib Sheets
Monday, 01 April 2013 14:50APRIL FOOLS' DAY - THIS IS A JOKE
In a surprise addition to the International Snipe Class Rules, the Board has decided to make hiking sticks illegal. It has also decided to set a maximum length for jib sheets of 2 meters. This will reduce the cost of sailing the Snipe by eliminating the need for a piece of expensive equipment that does nothing to increase the enjoyment of sailing the Snipe. It will also make it possible to use up those scraps of line that were previously thought to be too short for jib sheets.

Board of Governors Approves Europeans & WH&O Deed of Gift Changes
Sunday, 17 March 2013 12:24The SCIRA Board of Governors recently reviewed changes put forth from both the European and WH&O General Secretaries as a result of suggestions from their respective National Secretaries and sailors to improve each hemisphere event. Both Deed of Gift changes resulted in an increase in participants with the European Championships now open and the WH&O now able to open more qualified entrants. However, the Board rejected the change of race times suggested in the WH&O Deed of Gift from 40-55 60-75 minutes and continues to support the enforcement of the 60-75 minute race recommendation time to be consistent with the rest of our Championship events.
Heavy Jib Rule
Saturday, 02 March 2013 19:03Decision of the Rules Committee of February 22, 2013
The circular letter of october 2012 from the Chairman of the Rules Committee specified that the new heavier jibs were mandatory in the International events organised in 2013.
The Rules Committee was then asked to better specify the meaning of the word "International" and, if possible, to list the events in which the heavier jib shall be used.
As a result, the Rules Committee decided as follows:
The new jibs in production from jan 2013 shall be mandatory in the following International regattas:
- Senior World Championship
- Junior World Championship
- North American Championship (selecting for WH&O 2014)
- South American Championship (selecting for ODESUR 2014)
