Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship – Day 2

San Diego, September 9, 2014 Report by Carol Cronin Interview: Raul Rios Day 2 for the Westerns was a more classic San Diego day than expected. We towed out to the ocean and the wind came up as usual around 11am, but the RC was forced to postpone after a Navy ship anchored (apparently for practice) right where the windward mark needed to go. A bit of local color... Once racing began the left paid for the first beat, but after that it was a race to the right. In spite of the close to normal conditions, the locals weren't the one to figure it out the best, and Raul Rios/Fernando Monilor (PUR) now hold a 2 point lead over Breno Bianchi/Flavio de Castro (BRA). After racing, teams were welcomed at a variety of homes near the Yacht Club for heavy appetizers and beverages. It was a great chance to make some new Snipe friends, and watch the just past full moon rising over the city and harbor. More racing tomorrow! 1. (PUR) Raul Rios & Fernando Monilor, 14 2.
