2012 Snipe New England Championship Results

In what has become a District 1 tradition, the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly, Massachusetts (about an hour north of Boston) hosted an excellent two days of short course racing for 21 boats at this year's Snipe New England Championship. On the "serious fun" side of the equation, the usual Saturday night haddock dinner (caught and cooked by locals) and Sunday afternoon's Italian sausage with peppers and onions restored our energy after so many starts, tacks, gybes, and mark roundings.

In what has become a District 1 tradition, the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly, Massachusetts (about an hour north of Boston) hosted an excellent two days of short course racing for 21 boats at this year’s Snipe New England Championship. On the “serious fun” side of the equation, the usual Saturday night haddock dinner (caught and cooked by locals) and Sunday afternoon’s Italian sausage with peppers and onions restored our energy after so many starts, tacks, gybes, and mark roundings.

Salem Sound was busy with powerboats, adding to the mixed up water brought by a light seabreeze on Saturday and a fresher seabreeze that built to 12-14 knots by the end of sailing on Sunday. Jim and Alex Bowers started well and barely missed a trick, tossing one finish out of the top three to win the regatta by two points over Andy Pimental and Julia Marsh. Dogging at their heels were Carol Cronin and Linda Epstein, one point back. (Unofficially Carol and Andy are now “tied,” since Carol beat Andy by one point at the previous regatta.)

With seven brand new Snipe teams out learning to handle the boat (four Traveling Snipe Fleet boats and three local charters), this regatta is also a serious fleet builder.  We can only hope all the fun newcomers will be back soon. Thanks to local spark plug Shan McAdoo and the rest of the Jubilee Yacht Club family for welcoming us, year after year, even though we take over the parking lot on a busy summer weekend!
