Florida State Championship

St. Petersburg, November 17-18, 2012. Peter Commette and Jensen McTighe won in St Petersburg the Florida State Championship. With half a dozen sailors in Argentina for the WH&O, the size of the Fl States was reduced this year, but the competition and conditions were excellent.  On Saturday, we sailed 3 WL races with light winds from 5 to 7.  On Sunday, we sailed 3 Olympic races with 15+ winds.  Florida winters are nice, and our air temperature was in the 70's F and the water temperature was only slightly cooler.  The SPYC race committee was excellent as usual and handled the shifts and mark settings professionally.  Tara Levy drove the safety boat and took the attached picture.

Peter Commette/Jensen McTighe prevailed, but every race was a battle with Hal Gilreath/Bobby Guild in 2nd and Sharon Johnson/Megan Place taking third.  Boats attended from Miami, Atlanta (GA), Jacksonville, and St. Petersburg.  About half the participants were juniors, college students, and new Snipe sailors which bodes well for the future!

I'm not sure how to upload pics to Snipetoday. At any rate, with a bunch of Florida sailors in Argentina our numbers were down, but the spirit was up! Great competition and some new faces sailed six races in sunny St. Pete. All types of conditions, from light to triangles. Lots of fun.
