Here there is located the national Sailing Centre. This place is renowned for its atmosphere and people who are very keen on sailing. Those include the authorities of Gdańsk and sailing enthusiasts and sponsors. This year Gdansk has hosted an important sailing event – Timberland Nord Cup 2012 (similar to the Kieler Woche). The participants of this event have represented various sailing classes, for example, Hornet, OK- dingy, Hobby Cat, Europa, Nautica 450 and 420 .

This wonderful atmosphere and a possibility to organize good regatta, have made Rafał Zakrzewski, the East European secretary, patronize the event – East European Cup 2012 (30.062012- 02.07.20120.

During the regatta the weather was, unfortunately, stormy for two days and only two races took place. It was only on the third day when the wind was very good – three races were organized.

On Sunday evening the fan zone was organized and we had an opportunity to watch the final EURO 2012 match between Spain and Italy on a big screen. The fans supported both teams so the atmosphere was really emotional. I would like to mention here that Gdańsk is one of the host cities of EURO 2012. In football – similarly to sailing the better team wins (Spain – Italy/ 4 –0). Congratulations, Spain!

In our regatta EEC 2012 there participated 13 teams. The rivalry was fair-play. The best competitor received cups and prizes and all participants of the regatta obtained gifts from sponsors and organizers.

Classification of the teams:
1.    POL 30536 Mańczak Piotr
                    Blaszka Przemysław
2.    POL 29973 Kulesza Jakub
                     Kulesza Ewa
3.     POL 29475 Jaruga Michal
                     Jaruga Kinga

As the European Secretary I would like to give special thanks to Rafał Zakrzewski and Michał Korneszczuk from Gdańsk for a nice reception and good organization. I would like to invite all sailors from Europe to the regatta organized next year – it is really worth a while.

Zbigniew Rakocy
General Secretary Europe
