Espergaerde, May 18-20, 2013. Results and regatta report by Tobias Chroneer
As always Espergaerde and Harboe Cup is one of the highlights of the Scandinavian Snipe season. This year 26 crews from Belgium, Norway, Sweden and Denmark had gathered for the 3 day regatta in Oresund. Due to the fact that the regatta started on the 18th of May which is only one day after the Norwegians celebrate their national day, the regatta started in the afternoon.
The first day of sailing offered good sailing in easterly winds between 5-9 m/s and the organizers got 3 races done which later on proved to be a wise move… Leading the regatta after day one was Ulrik Sandvig and Tanya Ferner Heglund.
Day two greeted us sailors with rain and no wind and racing was postponed on shore for the whole day. The highlight of the day was a nice regattabarbecue and on top of that the sailors sat down and watched the WC final in ice hockey were Sweden beat Switzerland 5 to 1.
Day three did look like another day we would have to spend on shore and the organizers put up the AP but after an hour of waiting we were called out to sea. We managed to get one more race done in winds coming and going from light to lighter during the whole race. The winner of the race was Ulrik and Tanya which also meant that they had secured the victory of the Harboe Cup 2013. Kim Hyttel and Jacob Sorensen finishing in 8th place became Danish Champions 2013
A big thank you to everyone making this regatta possible and especially Jane Persson & Co who makes you feel so welcome on shore.
One more thing worth to mention is that Birger Jansen (who finishied second sailing together with Lise Gehrken) got a special recognition for sailing all 45 Harboe Cup.
Hope to see you all in Espergarde next year!
