The third edition of “Vele di San Ruffino” was sailed in the small lake in the middle of the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains, located in central Italy, in the Marche region. This regatta embodies the spirit of the Snipe in a gorgeous location where the unique and wonderful contrast among the water surface, the green wooded hills, and the high snow-capped mountains provide a magnificent painting made magical by our small sails.

No entry fee, dinners, snacks and refreshments at all hours and people happy to welcome us and to see us. The races were tough and full of changes of position. Six races were completed, all windward-leeward SCIRA courses that were between 40 and 45 minutes, showed that this artificial lake, created forty-two years ago by the interruption of the river Tenna, is big enough to ensure fun and technical races, as in Antwerp, Belgium,.

It is critical for the crews to read the water surface and look for areas of more pressure, trying to predict the unpredictable wind shifts, showing alertness and ability in making quick decisions, tacking and maneuvering continuously.

It was a tight match until the last meter between three teams for the victory: Francesco Rossi – Frenk Filippini, Mauro Maurizi – Silvia Bartoletti and Alberto Perdisa – Marco Rinaldi. At the end, after six races and one discard, these three teams were ranked in that order, with only one point away from each other.

There was good sailing also for Giuseppe Prosperi – Filiberto Perdisa, who sailed to two bullets but were erratic in the other races, and also for Gian Marco Pepe – Marco Prosperi, who were more regular but with fewer top finishes. Also noteworthy is the unusual pair Krantz Fontana – Andrea Minardi, who were penalized by a OCS and the most expert team Claudio Guadagni – Alessandro Amato, who were often in the lead.

The teams that represented the town of Amandola, with Rossi – Filippini, A.Perdisa – Rinaldi and Francesco Perdisa – Giulia Masetti, allowed this town to achieve the victory over the other municipalities in the district.

Francesco Rossi with his faithful “Frenk,” who has won every Vele of San Ruffino so far, can be defined as the “king” of this mountain lake.

The organizers, Stefano Castori and Anna Mariani, were able to involve an entire area that wants to offer an extraordinary quality, hospitality and very competitive prices in a part of Italy little-known but fascinating.

It was an exciting prize-giving ceremony, for the winners there were no trophies but instead a baskets with local food and wine and the usual atmosphere of these parts and these people with a great and sincere participation of the large audience. Two wonderful days of sport, immersion in nature, friendship and conviviality in perfect Italian style.
