It was a nice weekend of racing in Pescara for the third Regata Nazionale in 2013.

The economic crisis and a too full and concentrated calendar have caused a decline of participation compared to expectations, with only 20 boats on the starting line. In previous years the average was more than 30 boats. There were only four teams from nearby District 4, which has a large number of boats. All things that should make people think.

Anyway, all the “rock stars” were at the start with Solerio, Fantoni, Lambertenghi, Michel and Rossi. For these all races are useful for improving the preparation for the World Championship in Rio de Janeiro in September. Also present was the Italian National Secretary Andrea Piazza. A special commendation goes to him, as well as Fantoni, Lambertenghi. Michel and Solerio, having driven seven/nine hours to Pescara.

In the first race we had wind initially around nine knots and very short and difficult waves. The strong sailors Solerio and Simonetti didn’t have any problem winning both races with wind dropping during the day. In the second race the Race committe shortened the race at the second downwind leg.

Pietro Fantoni, with the young Laser Radial sailor Michele Meotto for the first time in a Snipe, got two excellent seconds in both races. Third in the first race was Francesco Rossi and Frenk Filippini while in the second one Roberto Tozzi and Marco Romani took the third.

The dinner on Saturday was neatly organized by our kind friends from Pescara of the Aternum fleet: Peppe and Rosa D’Orazio, Gianfranco Piselli, Pine Borghese, Sergio Lopez and all the other staff of the local Lega Navale. Gianfranco Piselli then recalled with emotion his wife Patrizia Di Gianmarco and her untimely death earlier this year, for which the regatta is now named in an atmosphere of friendship and brotherhood.

On Sunday, contrary to expectations, the Scirocco wind (North East) started to blow aorund 15-16 knots, with nice waves that allowed us to sail three wonderful races in “full hiking”mode. Six boats went away from the pack in a very close match for the victory. Filippo Perdisa with his father Alberto as crew were authors of an excellent last beat, allowing them to cross the finish line in fron of their fleet mates Francesco Rossi and Frenk Filippini, who had led for the entire race. Third was Enrico Michel and Francesca Ruggiero, preceding Solerio, Lambertenghi and Fantoni.

The fourth race of the series showed a similar script with continuous changes of positions. At the end Michel-Ruggiero prevailed in front of Solerio-Simonetti and Lambertenghi – Rinaldi. Then Rossi, Perdisa and Fantoni.

The fifth and final race was another very close match between the first six boats, and a great race for the lightweight team Pietro Fantoni – Michele Meotto, who finished in front of Solerio, Rossi, Michel. Lambertenghi and Perdisa.

At the end Enrico Solerio and Sergio Simonetti won this third Regata Nazionale, followed by Pietro Fantoni – Michele Meotto and Enrico Michel – Francesca Ruggiero. Rossi – Filippini lost the tie for third. Lambertenghi – Rinaldi were fifth and Perdisa jr. – Perdisa sr. were sixth. Francesca Ruggiero, as first woman, was awarded with the Trophy Patrizia Di Gianmarco.
