Ten Snipes raced in Mediterranean conditions for the UK SE championships at Blackwater SC, with competitors from France, Brazil and Italy all showing in the leading pack..

The hot weather put some sailors in serious holiday mode on Friday night and after finishing the barrel of local beer there were some hangovers on Saturday morning … with Alan Williams and Liz Pike looking unusually fragile …

An early start on Saturday with light sea breezes saw Guy Welsh and master tactician Pete Wolstenholme in snipe 27106 dominating the racing, closely pursued by Maxim Romain crewed by Mathew Wolstenholme. In a very tight pack both Brazilian sailor Tim Barr and Italian Marco Bullatore, crewing for Eric Paalman scored some good results. Alan Williams and Liz were sufficiently recovered by race 3 to take the final race of the day.

On Sunday with temperatures still well above UK normal the wind freshened slightly and a very tight fleet enjoyed 3 races in perfect conditions. In a repeat of Saturdays performances it was Guy Welsh who dominated early on with Alan Williams taking the last race and Maxim Romain scoring consistently well.
