Birger Jansen, with his crew Janett Krefting, was voted Snipe Sailor of the Year. Birger passed away in November after a long battle. In September he was in Santiago de la Ribera for sailing the Europeans and meeting his Snipe family. It was his last regatta. This year, in May he was able to sail and win the Majsnipen, an important regatta in Sweden, despite his illness. Birger was SCIRA Commodore, European Champion and many times Norwegian Champion. But first of all he was friend to all. Birger Jansen was a wonderful friend of mine for more than 20 years while I was photographing the Snipe Midwinter circuit and the World Masters in Oslo in late 20th century. Thru Birger, I met a great many excellent sailors, including Halvor and Edel Poulsson from Oslo, who were guest in my home in Florida for many years while they sailing in the Snipe Midwinters.

I miss my friend Birger...Dennis Kelly
