For the second time, Shan MacAdoo and his team at the Jubillee Yacht Club in Beverly MA, put on a great regatta for the Snipe Women’s National Championships.

Friday kicked off the event with rigging and tuning a number of chartered boats and a chalk talk by Carol Cronin followed by some on the water coaching and practice races.

Racing got underway on Saturday for the 17 teams in a very shifty west/southwesterly breeze with large variations in pressure. Staying in the breeze that was most often on the edges of the course was key. The race committee completed three races between 11am and 3 pm when the sea breeze filled in from the southeast, a much more consistent direction.

One more race was completed and a fifth started but ultimately abandoned as the breeze went very light with a 60 degree shift after the first weather mark.

After a long day on the water the competitors hit the dock for a very welcome dinner of sushi and asian chicken wings.

The forecast for Sunday was a very light northeasterly, but fortunately was at about 10 knots and held for the day allowing for another four races to be completed.

At the end of the day the Annapolis team of Sonya Smith and Lauren Schoene had a very consistent regatta and won three races to take the event with 16 points. Lynne Shore and Julia Rabin were also consistent and finished second with 24 points. Places 3-5 were separated by only two points with Jennifer and Kelly Rousmaniere winning a tie for third.
