Warm but low breeze at R2 Tampere Regatta
In addition to 1100 km long sea coast line in Finland we have got over 60.000 lakes. Näsijärvi is one of those lakes where Snipes can be seen racing. So there’ s a huge potential for growth of Snipe sailing measured by volume of water, heh. All by all, fourteen Snipe teams gathered together 170 km to north of Helsinki at the home club of famous Bjurström brothers – some of older Snipe guys remember them from top of the World 70’s and 80’s.
Race committee had some challenges with the circulating and pumping breeze of 1-3 m/s, but managed finally to operate two races per day. Light teams got obviously benefit from conditions. Antti and his son Matias were most talented this time in light conditions.
Various shape of teams could be seen racing: father-son, father-daughter, male-female, female-female, male-male from 14 yrs to close to 60. This one of the strengths in our Class. Snipe is One Boat for All.
This was our 2/6 ranking regatta and also the last Worlds qualifier. Target is to send at least three Finnish boats in Spain.
PS. Finland will host Europeans Aug 13-18, 2018 in Pori. Preliminary Europeans Regatta will be sailed Sep 1-3, 2017 at Finnish Nationals. Please contact our board in case of interest to participate. Welcome! e-mail: email@example.com.
