Wow! What a day!

It was wild and crazy for all of us out in the ocean. Even with huge waves, pouring rain and the wind picking up to 30+ knots, the RC and sailors tried their best to have a race.... but mother nature was stronger and races were postponed. All so anxious and eager to sail, but the RC had no choice but to send us in with only one bent mast and some bruised egos after several capsizes. Fortunately, we were able to get in 4 good races in the protected Intracoastal Waterway right off the LYC dock. Augie Diaz and Kathleen Tocke got the band back together and beat us all. Ernesto Rodriquez and new crew Alex Sidi were second; Peter and Connie Commette were third.

Just a reminder about the regatta. It is the Ron Payne Memorial. Ron was a beloved Snipe National Champion Sailor from Indianapolis. He and his wife, Wingate, sailed together for many years in 470's and Snipes, and their children grew up sailing at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. Ron was a respected Admiralty attorney in town and a multiple times LYC Legal Officer for LYC Board of Governors. Wingate Payne and their son, Thomas Payne, were with us Saturday to present the trophy in Ron's honor. The boat number on the trophy is number of Ron and Win's last Snipe.

Don't forget that next year the Ron Payne also will be the US Pan-Am Trials, April 5-7, 2019. For that one, we expect 30 boats.
