Frigid Digit - D1 Champs

Saturday, 29 September 2018 00:00

Snipe Frigid Digit is in two weeks! Let's rally for a good turnout for the last event of the year. We are doing something just a little different this year: Instead of including dinner with the entry fee, we reduced it to $45 and will have an a la carte dinner at the hip, newly renovated Market House downtown for those interested. We'll have refreshments and chips right after sailing, then meet downtown for those who want to participate.

Annapolis, June 16, 2018

By Alex Pline

After six races is near perfect Annapolis early summer conditions, Evan Hoffman/Shalom Fadullon take a strong lead in the open division (Under 30), while Christian Filter/Emily Gonzalez lead the Junior division (Snipe US Junior Nationals) and Morgan Carew/Keith Carew have a commanding lead in the Special Juniors division. The breeze was SE at 8-10 all day and PRO Steve Podlich chose to set the course up in the Severn River instead of the usual course of Greenbury Point as the power boat chop was less and the breeze better. Three more races tomorrow to round out the series. With 18 boats and great competition, almost every spot is still up for grabs!

Colonial Cup

Monday, 04 June 2018 07:24

Annapolis, June 3, 2018

Report by Kim Couranz

26 Snipes descended on Annapolis, Maryland, for the annual Colonial Cup Regatta hosted by Severn Sailing Association. As always, it featured fun both on and off the water with sailors from up and down the East Coast of the United States.

A few days before the regatta, the weather forecast for Saturday was grim: heavy thunderstorms and no wind. Thankfully, that forecast did not hold, and sailors enjoyed four races on the Chesapeake Bay in light wind. Competitors had to choose best routes to take advantage of wind and had to consider outgoing current, which was stronger on the righthand side of the course. The fourth race proved especially challenging as the breeze shut off during the final beat. But cloud cover and the threat of rain kept Annapolis's famous powerboat fleet ashore, and with flat water, Snipes kept sailing upwind!

2017 Frigid Digit

Monday, 16 October 2017 02:27

Severn Sailing Association Annapolis, MD USA

October 14-15

12 boats, 7 races, 1 discard

12 boats turned out for two fun days of racing on the Chesapeake Bay, two weeks later than the usual Frigid Digit dates (and neatly overlapped with the Lightning Frigid Digit). Weather was hardly "frigid" with summer-like temps both days (and summer-like light winds on Saturday). Three races were fit in on Saturday under gray skies in a 2-7 knot northerly breeze that kept the powerboat traffic down.

Colonial Cup

Monday, 05 June 2017 07:25

Annapolis, June 4-5, 2017. Final results after 6 races (1 discard)

(Regatta report by Alex Pline. Photos courtesy of Ted Morgan)

Annapolis served up a chamber of commerce weekend for the twenty competitors at the 2017 Colonial Cup at Severn Sailing Association. A few days before the regatta, the weather forecast was not looking very promising with high pressure system filling in over the Chesapeake Bay. This usually results in a dying northwesterly breeze and the infamous Annapolis "Washing Machine" chop. However, there ended up being two cold fronts bookending the regatta which kept the conditions lively and challenging.
